761-6693 An LED is a solid- state, semiconductor chip that has been specially designed to emit light. In fact, “LED” is an acronym that means “Light Emitting Diode.” At the heart of the LED is a tiny diode that generates an intense amount of light when an electric current is applied. Advantages of LED Lights versus Traditional Incandescent Lights LED LIGHTING PREMIUM QUALITY WHAT IS AN LED? 1. LONGEVITY AND DURABILITY • LED lights are solid state construction. Unlike incandescent lights, LED lights do not require ﬁlaments that heat-up and eventually stretch, weaken and fail. • LED lights withstand road vibration and shock more effectively than bulb-type lights. • The life expectancy of an LED is 100,000 hours, or six times that of an average incandescent bulb. 2. EFFICIENCY • LED lights consume signiﬁcantly less power than incandescent lights. The amp draw of an LED can be as low as 1/10th that of an incandescent light. The lower amp draw means more power for other critical, electrical needs. 3. GREATER SAFETY • LEDs create intense light making a vehicle more noticeable. • The University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute found that LED lights respond about 2/10ths of a second faster than standard incandescent lights. The study showed that by improving the reaction time of drivers following the vehicle, LED brake lights reduced their braking distance by approximately 16 feet. 5www.pmlights.com Not all LEDs are created equal.
